• e-Waste Collection

  DeVries provides free electronic waste collection services for consumers, small business, school districts, small governments, special purpose districts and charities. We are a Washington Materials Management & Financing Authority (WMMFA) authorized collection center. What Electronics Can I Bring for Free? -televisions -computers -computer monitors -portable or laptop computers including "tablet computers" -e-readers (also called e-book readers) Please note that computer peripherals such as keyboards, mice, and printers are not included in the WMMFA program. For a small fee, we can dispose of these items for you. Why Bring Your Electronic Waste? Millions of pounds of unwanted electronics are thrown in the trash and dumpsters in Washington annually. Electronics contain toxic materials such as lead, cadmium, mercury and other hazardous chemical that can harm human health and the environment. E-cycling keeps these and other materials out of our landfills and incinerators and conserves natural resources and energy required to make products from scratch. Many of the materials in these products can be re-used in new products reducing the need to manufacture virgin parts. Some unwanted electronics still work, and can be made available secondhand to people who may not be able to afford to buy new equipment. What Happens to My Electronics After They Go to E Cycle Wasington? The majority of the electronics are disassembled for recycling here in Washington. Some electronics go out-of-state for processing and some materials are exported for recycling at approved facilities. However, obsolete electronics are not exported to third-world countries. Metals, plastics and glass are separated and sold as commodities to be reused as raw materials in the manufacturing of new products. On average only 2% of the total volume goes to a landfill - mostly particle board from cabinet TVs. Toxic materials such as batteries, leaded glass, circuit boards and fluorescent tubes must be managed properly by approved recyclers. Ecology also requires recyclers to meet standards designed to protect worker safety and health as well as the environment. Electronics Waste Recycling Data Security Simply formatting your drive or deleting files does NOT provide secure and complete data destruction. DeVries Business Services is a NAID Certified Information Destruction company and for a small fee, we can remove your hard drive and shred it before sending your PC or laptop computer to a WMMFA approved processor.
